This year, as a tradition, we commemorated one of the most important days of the year – International Childhood Cancer Day. Since 2002, this day has been commemorated at the national level and it became a part of the Public Health Calendar in the Republic of Serbia in 2013.
For the first time this year, we had the honor of marking this significant date in collaboration with a group of young people who have survived cancer – “Survivors Serbia, the Cancer Reapers.”
On February 15th, the Always with Children Association organized a video recording in collaboration with the “Cancer Reapers” youth group. We asked the young people to share with us why they believe it is important to commemorate this date and what message they would like to send to those currently facing their greatest battle. Along with them, many celebrities joined in and filmed a video showing their support to children battling cancer. Primary Schools from Serbia OŠ”Petar Petrović Njegoš” from Vršac, OŠ “Pavle Savić” from Belgrade, OŠ “Despot Stefan Lazarević”from Belgrade and the kindergarten “Pegaz” from Belgrade filmed video messages as well.
Additionally, with the assistance of Tatjana Jovanović, an event was organized on the main square in Aranđelovac under the slogan “Let balloons fly into the sky, let the winner be the child.” We express great gratitude to Tatjana, the municipality of Aranđelovac, and the Tourist Organization of the Municipality of Aranđelovac. This event would not have been possible without our donors: JKP Bukulja, Slatko srce, Bel Gusto, Fortuna Centar.
The event was enriched by the traditional dance of the Society of Folk Tradition “Šamot,” and students from the primary schools “Milan Ilić Čiča” and “Svetolik Ranković” attended
