Irac – A Man with a Big Heart
Marko’s philanthropic efforts for children undergoing cancer treatment at the Department of Oncology and Radiology in Serbia began on September 1, 2015. He embarked on a journey, walking with his dog Paja from Belgrade to Corfu, to commemorate the great tragedy of the Serbian people during the First World War, precisely 100 years ago.
He dedicated this “Walk” to the heroic children, recognizing their courageous battle, much like the grandfather of his wife Vesna and his great-grandfather, who served in the London Irish Regiment and fought alongside Serbs against the Bulgarians on the Salonika front in 1916.
They “walked” through Serbia and entered Montenegro, following the route of the Drina Division through Albania and finally reaching the island of Corfu (KRF).
They crossed Kajmakčalan, and after covering 2000 kilometers and camping outdoors for 3.5 months, they ultimately returned to the starting point, in front of the Institute of Oncology and Radiology in Belgrade. This marked the beginning, but Marko’s mission continued.
