Our team
The majority of our team consists of parents who have experienced exactly what parents of children with cancer are currently going through.
We know how they feel, we understand them, and are here to help.
They know they can trust us and reach out to us to get assistance.
And so begins our shared journey...
At the initial station, we got to know each other, had a little talk, continued the journey, exchanged experiences, opened our hearts, parents and children shared their problems, found solutions together, and became friends until the last station.
Not just friends - a BIG FAMILY.
Mihajlo Tomašević, the dedicated president of the Association Always with the Children, is not just a leader by title but a compassionate father whose personal journey has shaped his commitment to supporting others. Mihajlo’s involvement stems from a profound connection—he is the father of a resilient young boy who faced the challenges of cancer. Before assuming the role of president, Mihajlo actively collaborated with our Association, extending invaluable support to both our team and the families we were assisting.
His firsthand experience ignited a desire to play a more active role, driven by the sincere wish to aid those undergoing experiences similar to his family’s during their son’s treatment. Today, Mihajlo leads the Association with a harmonious blend of personal and professional insight. His understanding of the intricacies faced by families dealing with cancer is not just theoretical; it’s deeply personal.
Mihajlo’s leadership is grounded in a genuine comprehension of the needs of these families, shaping the Association’s goals with a realistic and achievable mindset. His leadership style reflects not only empathy but a practical approach to make a positive impact on the lives of those touched by childhood cancer.
Mileva Ličina, executive director of the Association, is a mother of a daughter who survived cancer. Mileva started her voluntary work at the Association in 1995. During her daughter’s treatment, she realized that she has the capacity to help other parents who were undergoing the same hardships as she was, and she decided to extend her reach and to help further through joining our organization’s work. She had been working as a volunteer for a number of years, and her ongoing commitment was recognized, leading her to a high position which she has today.
As one of the leaders of our organization, she is responsible for the execution of all projects established at the annual board meeting, media presence, as well as for general coordination and communication within the Association. Her unique strength lays in the ability to build bridges of empathy and understanding, all based upon her lived experience and expertise knowledge of all the challenges that families have to face on the road to recovery.
Dušanka Tomašević, the main financial accountant of the organization, is also a mother of a son who had battled cancer at a young age. She joined our team in 2012, led by her lived experience of all the hardships that parents whose children fall ill have to face. While her son was undergoing treatment, she realized the importance of having support from an organization such as ours, and, following her son’s recovery, she made it her mission to help other parents whose children are now facing what she and her family have already went through. Her approach is rather unique.
Having lived through all the challenges that families are going through, she can offer deeper emotional support and understanding, but she can also offer practical advice based on her experience, making her a key person for the emotional support that we aim to offer.
Ivona Zlatanov has become part of our Association in October 2023. She is a mother of two young daughters, and she has always wanted to use her knowledge and skills for a bigger cause. She has years of marketing experience and, recognizing the importance of our mission, she decided to use that knowledge to help our association grow. So far, she has been restlessly working on promoting Always with the Children Association and raising awareness of our organization within society.
She has successfully promoted our projects, increased our media presence and community engagement. This led to many new donors supporting the work of our organization. With her great positive energy and her experience of being a mother, she has a unique approach which makes it easy for children and parents to build a bond of trust with her, making her a priceless asset to our work.
Milica Begović began her work at the same time as Ivona, in October 2023. Milica is a master psychologist, and after living in London for two years, she came back to Serbia with the general idea of wanting to work with young people. The association has always been proud of supporting young people in our community, and we recognized the expertise that Milica could offer, and we decided to give her a chance to further develop professionally within our organization. Today, Milica is successfully leading support groups for young people who survived cancer. In addition, she offers free counselling to parents and young people. Her young age enables her to connect to young people in a specific way.
Together, Mileva, Dušanka, Ivona and Milica make up the main team of the Association Always with the Children, and the four of them are there to help and support families through their difficult times.
