About us
The majority of our team consists of parents who have experienced exactly what parents of children with cancer are currently going through.
Always with the children
We were founded on September 2, 1991, as an association of citizens dedicated to helping children undergoing treatment in the pediatric department of the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia
Children worldwide are not spared from malignant diseases. Although the total number of cases among children is only a fraction of the overall incidence in adults, in developed countries, they rank second as the cause of mortality in children aged 0-15, just behind accidents.
Therefore, a proper understanding of these diseases and the concerted efforts of the entire community in modern treatment and care for these children reflect the development not only of the healthcare system but also the maturity of society as a whole.
The most common malignant diseases in children are malignant hematopathies (leukemias and lymphomas) and solid tumors. Through effective collaboration, appropriate equipment, and care from various specialties (pediatric oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, immunologists, bacteriologists, pathologists, psychologists, etc.), we are now able to permanently cure more than half of the affected children and give them back their childhood.
Doctors, nurses, educators, and psychologists in the pediatric oncology department of the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, in collaboration with the Association ‘Always with the Children,’ undertake various activities beyond medical therapy. They spend time with ‘their children,’ organize visits from actors, poets, children’s writers to the department, and encourage the talents of the little ones.
On behalf of the children undergoing treatment in the Pediatric Department of the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia and their parents, we want to awaken the positivity that guided us in founding the ‘Always with Children’ Association.

The project involves organizing regular art workshops at the Institute of Oncology (IORS) and in the “Parent’s Corner,” allowing children to gradually create an imaginary city with all the institutions, objects, and activities found in real cities. The children have named this city ŽIZUKO.
Through their contributions to the city, they become “builders” and remain a part of the community.
