Every year, around 370 children in Serbia are diagnosed with cancer. Treatment spans a significant period, demanding the full commitment of both children and their families.
During this challenging time, children are often unable to attend school, leading to feelings of isolation and a disconnection from their peers. Spending extended periods in hospitals further exacerbates this situation, limiting their access to everyday social interactions and opportunities.
When we asked children and young people about their greatest needs, the majority had the same answer – the need for companionship and someone who understands the challenges they have faced.
With this in mind, our dedicated work focuses on providing support to children and their families to help them overcome the obstacles they face.
About the Project
The “Children and Young People Without Limits” project was launched in 2023 with the aim of providing long-term psychosocial support to children and young people. So far, we have successfully provided free access to a summer camp and psychological support for thirty-one children.
To ensure that we provide adequate support, we have initiated collaboration with psychologist and a defectologist who have dedicated their time to designing a series of workshops that children and young people participate in, now for the second consecutive year.
Every month, we hold two-hour workshops with young people covering topics such as “life’s ups and downs,” “discrimination,” “humanity,” “desires and possibilities before and after the diagnosis,” and more. In addition, we work with young people to strengthen resilience and develop their social skills.
Once a year, we organize a summer camp on the Golija Mountain. The camp is completely free for all our children and young people who have finished the treatment, and transportation is provided. All activities during the camp are designed to ensure everyone has fun and forms friendships that will last a lifetime.
